Cypriana Restaurant's history
FROM CITY STREETS…
Cypriana started as a simple food cart in downtown Baltimore in 1991. Chef Maria Kaimakis and Vasso Yiannouris left the car business to realize their dream to bring authentic, vibrant and healthy Cypriot dishes to Baltimore. Maria and Vasso would serve popular items like falafel and chicken pita. The popularity of the cart only grew as huge crowds came to discover the delicious hidden gem.
TO LOCAL FAVORITE…
People would line up around the block to get their hands on the Mediterranean fare. Eventually, the humble food cart became a location in the food court of the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Shock Trauma Center. This spot was a hit, even being rated the “Best Hospital Food” by City Paper.
TO COMMUNITY STAPLE…
Eventually, Chef Maria and Vassos had their dreams come true when the couple transitioned from their beloved food cart to a full-service restaurant in the Roland Park neighborhood of Baltimore. The restaurant allowed for a wider range of Mediterranean dishes to be added to their menu. Now, the restaurant serves as a staple for locals to enjoy the staple dishes, good cocktails and vibrant atmosphere. It is also nestled between Johns Hopkins and Loyola University, providing a local spot for students and their families on game-day, at graduation, and beyond!
…AND NOW HERE!
We continue to serve our Baltimore community the authentic, sophisticated, yet simple menu - the recipes of our grandmothers! We hope to carry on this tradition for many years to come.
